Ben has many “residences”. A small cave, not much more than a hole in the ground, in southeastern mossflower; just inside the tree line before the forest gives way to the southern wastes. He has a little room in the western settlement, on the third floor of “Barlly’s boarding house.” A dirty establishment in most senses of the word. Deep in the middle of mossflower he sometimes stays at an old abandoned cabin, and often tends the daffodils around the house, as well as keeps the beds clean and made. It is open to any who wish to stay there as long as they are willing to water the daffodils while they stay. A dray in a hollowed pine northeast of Redwall Abbey is secured with a padlocked cover over the entrance. And of course the guardian fort. But none of these are really “home” for Ben. His real home is with his close friends the Goldsworthys. The Goldsworthys took him in at 14 when his grandfather; the last of his southern born relatives, passed away. The Goldsworthys are a wealthy family of hares who live at Goldworth Hall located at the southern end of the meadow south of Redwall Abbey.
